Meetings and Support Groups:

MaineTransNet offers several support groups and meeting opportunities throughout the month.  Check them out and see if one (or more) sounds right for you!  It is our goal to provide services that are useful to the community and therefore, we always welcome feedback and suggestions on how we can improve services.  If you have a suggestion for a group or activity, please e-mail us and let us know!

House Keeping:
  • On occasion, we may need to postpone, move, or cancel and event, meeting or activity.  You can find out about these changes on our Facebook page or on the Yahoo! Group.  For inclement weather cancellations, use the University of Southern Maine, Portland Campus as a guide: If classes are canceled due to weather, our activity or meeting will also be canceled. (Note: if morning classes only are canceled, and NOT evening classes, we will likely hold our event/meeting scheduled during the evening: however, it is best to check the Facebook and Yahoo! Groups for the most accurate information.)
  • There are no "minimum requirements" regarding state of transition for one to attend meetings.  MaineTransNet is a welcoming place for all people, at all phases of gender transition, expression or identity.
  • Please check out the guidelines on how to be a good group member (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader which you can download here for free).
  • Why should I come to a meeting? There are LOTS of reasons right here!
  • You may come to the meetings dressed however you are most comfortable, and you can change clothes when you get here if you like.  For the comfort and convenience of our members, we always try to schedule our meetings at a location that has access to private or gender neutral rest rooms.  Sometimes this is not possible, and in these cases, we try to let you know what the restroom situation looks like in advance.
  • To help further our work and keep MaineTransNet going, we "pass the hat" at the end of our meetings.  Folks are invited to give within their means; however, donating is NOT required.  We are dedicated to keeping the cost of the services we offer to trans people low, and as close to FREE as we can afford.  Your donations are greatly appreciated and help us continue to offer low-cost services and programming to the community.

Trans-Only AND Trans and Allies meetings have moved to the Dana Center, classroom 7, located at Maine Medical Center (22 Bramhall Street Portland, ME)  You can enter directly into the Dana Center doors until 7pm.  After 7pm, the doors might be locked.  If you are arriving late, you may need to enter through the main entrance of the hospital and ask for directions to the Dana Center at the information desk.  A map with directions is located here.

NOTE: The room we will be using is in a building with many other classrooms, where there will be other community groups meeting at the same time we are there.  MMC has agreed to put up some signage on our floor regarding gender neutral restrooms for the nights that we are meeting.

There is ample FREE parking in both the MMC lot and on the street.  MMC has security staff on hand 24/7 and the entire MMC campus is monitored with video cameras.  Parking meters do not need to be paid after 6pm.  If you park in the MMC garage, you will have to walk all the way through the hospital to get to the Dana Center (The garage is actually the farthest point away from the Dana Center on the hospital campus).  Ask for directions at the information desk in the main lobby.
