Meetings and Support Groups:

MaineTransNet offers support group meetings in Portland and Bangor. These currently include three monthly meetings in Portland at the Maine Medical Center, and one monthly Trans Only meeting in Bangor at 106 Pine Street, Bangor, Maine.

It is our goal to provide services that are useful to the community and therefore, we always welcome feedback and suggestions on how we can improve services. If you have a suggestion for a group or activity, please e-mail us and let us know!

Please Note:

On occasion, we may need to postpone, move, or cancel and event, meeting or activity. You can find out about these changes on our Facebook page.

There are no "minimum requirements" regarding state of transition for one to attend meetings. MaineTransNet is a welcoming place for all people, at all phases of gender transition, expression or identity.

You should come to the meetings dressed however you are most comfortable! You can also change clothes when you get here if you'd like.

For the comfort and convenience of our members, we always try to schedule our meetings at a location that has access to private or gender neutral rest rooms. Currently, our meeting location in Bangor (106 Pine Street) has a multi-gender single use bathroom. Unfortunately, our meeting location in Portland (Maine Med) has two gendered, multi-stall bathrooms. In our best effort, we will try to inform your of the bathroom situation at all MTN events in advance.

Trans and Allied Meetings

This meeting is for transgender/genderqueer/questioning individuals as well as their family members, partners, significant others, loved ones, and allies.

Trans people do not NEED to bring an ally--it's still fine to come on your own!

If you are an ally, who would like to attend by yourself (i.e,. without your trans family member/partner/friend), please RSVP before attending your first meeting.

NOTE: The allies group is not the place to bring your medical or mental health provider. It is not an educational forum for people to learn more about the trans community. Members of the press or media are not allowed in this group EVER. This is a place for trans people and their allies to learn about each other's challenges and triumphs, and receive support. If you are a mental health or medical provider, or someone who wants to learn more, please contact us, and we would be glad to arrange for a training session or interview.
