Why Should I come to a Meeting?
We
understand that some people might think, "I am well on my
way, and I don't need support anymore," and while this may be true,
there are a lot of reasons why folks should come to our meetings,
regardless of where they are in their transition / gender identity
process.
- To meet other transgender people.
- It can be comforting to know that we are not alone on our
journeys, and knowing there are other people out there to connect with and share our experiences with can be helpful.
- To build community.
- Community building helps people feel a sense of togetherness.
We are not plodding through life in a vacuum, and seeing we are not
alone gives us a sense of belonging to something greater.
- To get support while on your journey of self discovery and/or transition.
- Let's face it, it can be tough out there. The internet is a
vast expanse of resources and knowledge, but how do you know what is
relevant to you and what applies in our neck of the woods? Connecting
with people from our own geographic locale, and getting pertinent and
relevant information saves time, effort and heartache.
- To GIVE support to others in need.
- Yes, you are well on your way and maybe don't need support
yourself; however, remember when you began your journey, and maybe
wished you could talk to someone who knew what you were going through? You are a
valuable resource to MaineTransnet AND the folks who need support and
information. Come share your knowledge and experiences with folks who would love to hear from you!
- To support a local organization.
- Sometimes its hard to see where our money and efforts go when we are giving to or volunteering for larger organizations
and causes. At MaineTransNet, everyone makes a difference and you can
see almost immediately how your support and participation impacts the
community.
