Transgender Crash Course

Time: 60 minutes
Audience: Office, Community Setting

A brief overview of essential topics, the Transgender Crash Course will introduce you to basic terminology and theory, pronouns, and do's and don'ts with a period of time to answer burning questions. This training is ideal for busy offices that simply don’t have the time to book a more comprehensive training option, but that have an urgent need to transmit basic information to staff members. 

Transgender Introductory Primer 

Time: 2 hours
Audience: Mental Health, Social Service, & Medical Providers

Our most popular training, the Transgender Introductory Primer is ideal for a variety of professionals in the helping and health professions. During this training, you will learn basic terminology and theory, how to ask for pronouns, health disparities facing the community, resiliency factors, gender transition paths and support needs, and targeted best practices. Providers will have an opportunity following the training to list themselves in our community health database.

Certificates for CEUs are available upon request. 

Transgender Comprehensive Primer 

Time: 4 hours
Audience: Mental Health, Social Service, & Medical Providers

A more in depth training than the Transgender Introductory Primer, this training is ideal for clinical professionals, or those working in meso- or macro- social work settings. During this training, we will take an in depth look at our community’s evolving terminology, gender theory, how to ask for pronouns, health disparities facing the community, resiliency factors, gender transition paths and support needs, and targeted best practices. Providers will have an opportunity following the training to list themselves in our community health database. Upon request, this training can be geared towards the needs of individual agencies and clinics, and can include special focus on sexual health, sexual violence, youth or elder work, or topics specific to doubly marginalized communities such as trans people with disabilities.

Transgender Allies Training

Time: 1.5 hours
Audience: General Community, Religious Groups, Allied Grassroots Organizations

Our Transgender Allies Training is one of our most sought after. During this 90 minute training, you will learn basic terminology and theories about gender identity, do's and don't when interacting with trans people, an overview of frequently asked questions, best practices when asking pronouns, the pillars of allyship, and a discussion of the current status of trans people in this world and why we need allies. 

School-based Allies Training

Time: 1.5 hrs 
Audience: Educators and School Administrators, Student Groups such as GSAs and Civil Rights Teams 

This training is focused entirely on the needs of transgender youth. During this 90 minute training, you will learn basic terminology and theories about gender identity, do's and don'ts when interacting with trans youth, an overview of frequently asked questions, best practices in supporting youth as they explore their gender identities, the pillars of allyship, and ways to build a trans-inclusive school environment. 

Workplace  Allies Training

Time: 1.5 hrs 
Audience: Specific, Non-Clinical Work Environments 

This adapted Transgender Allies Training is ideal for non-clinical workplaces where supporting transgender staff members and customers is a primary concern. During this 90 minute training, you will learn basic terminology and theories about gender identity, do's and don'ts when interacting with trans people, an overview of frequently asked questions, best practices when asking pronouns, and an overview of workplace legal protections and common areas of concern for transgender Mainers and how employers can actively work to mitigate harm and create safer environments for staff members and customers.   

Transgender Sexual Health 

Time: 1.5 hours
Audience: Health Care Providers, Educators, and Parents.

This training is targeted for providers, caregivers, and those in the helping professions as well as adults and educators working with trans youth. This training will take a sex positive approach to transgender sexuality with an aim towards health promotion, trust, and pleasure. Topics of discussion will include: stigma and fetishization of trans bodies; medical transition’s impact on sexual health; risk factors associated with trans bodies and associated screening needs; intimate partner violence; harm reduction; age appropriate conversations with trans youth about sexual wellness; the use of prosthetics in intimate settings; gender affirming language in relation to body parts; and reproductive justice and planning within the trans community. This training can be geared towards the needs of specific attendees, and is often specifically focused on youth or elder work.

Inclusion of Transgender People of Color

Time: 2 Hours or 4 Hours. Depending on organizational need.

Audience: Community Organizations and Community Settings that are led by and/or serve people of color

In this training you will learn basic terminology regarding the transgender community, learn background and statistics on transgender people of color in Maine, learn the background and statistics on violence transgender people in Maine face, learn about the effects of transphobia in and out of communities of color, and how to organizationally and comunally work towards the inclusion of transgender people of color.
