Transgender Sexual Health with the Mabel Wadsworth Center

Time: 1.5 hours

Audience: Health Care Providers, Educators, and Parents.

This training is targeted for providers, caregivers, and those in the helping professions as well as adults and educators working with trans youth. This training will take a sex positive approach to transgender sexuality with an aim towards health promotion, trust, and pleasure. Topics of discussion will include: stigma and fetishization of trans bodies; medical transition’s impact on sexual health; risk factors associated with trans bodies and associated screening needs; intimate partner violence; harm reduction; age appropriate conversations with trans youth about sexual wellness; the use of prosthetics in intimate settings; gender affirming language in relation to body parts; and reproductive justice and planning within the trans community. This training can be geared towards the needs of specific attendees, and is often specifically focused on youth or elder work.

Supporting Transgender Older Adults

Time; Two hours

Audience: Mental health providers, elder service providers, in home care workers, social service providers

This training is ideal for a variety of professionals in the helping and health professions who work with older adults. During this training, you will learn basic terminology and theory, how to ask for pronouns, health disparities facing transgender older adults, gender transition paths and challenges, risk factors for social isolation, and best practices for promoting inclusion. Family dynamics, spiritual concerns, end of life care, and how medical transition can affect older bodies differently will be discussed.
